Temple Beth El is a welcoming and spiritual Reform congregation, providing opportunities for all those who wish to engage in Jewish life through prayer, study, and social action, while supporting each other in times of joy and sorrow.

We aspire to provide a dynamic center for Jewish religious, cultural and educational life in Charlotte. To respond to this vision, we adopt the following as a code of performance:

MEMBERSHIP: With our love of Jewish living and learning that emphasizes inclusiveness, an egalitarian, Reform philosophy, and respect for tradition, we look to bring all those who embrace Judaism into our extended family. We anticipate modest and continuous growth.

ENGAGEMENT: We will strive to increase the participation of our congregants in worship services, congregational involvement and cultural enrichment. In addition, we aspire to maintain and expand our membership base through outreach to newcomers and unaffiliated Jews, and increased attention to and retention of existing membership.

ENRICHMENT: We aspire to provide our congregants with stimulating and relevant educational activities with special emphasis on programs providing more ways for our members to learn, pray, engage in tikkun olam, and live fulfilling spiritual lives. We aim to engage and support the ever-evolving demographic populations of our congregation. Additionally, we wish to continue to inspire our membership to become active participants in synagogue life and to make meaningful, long-lasting connections to the Jewish community.

FACILITY: We aspire to promote Temple Beth El as a gathering place for our community providing sacred spaces for worship, desirable venues for lifecycle events, and a multi-purpose center for our diverse programming. Our facilities need to be aesthetically pleasing, flexible, and state-of-the-art to accommodate the needs of our congregants and the greater community. It must meet the staffing and programming needs of a vibrant and growing congregation.

FINANCE: We must build a strong and stable financial base through our dues structure, by fostering a strong endowment and promoting legacy giving.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF: We will strive to attract and retain clergy and professional staff who demonstrate excellence and leadership in all facets of their work, who represent our institutional values, and who help Temple Beth El achieve its mission and vision. We are committed to evaluating our staffing structure to ensure that it meets the ever-changing needs of our congregation.

With these in mind, Temple Beth El looks to the next decade with an expectation of vitality, excellence, growth and strength
