Challenges and opportunities in public education, reconciling faith and science, and building computers out of genetically modified bacteria were among the broad array of topics presented at the inaugural [i.e.] Information Exchange,a recent forum hosted by Foundation For The Carolinas and its Center for Civic Leadership. The event brought community leaders together for a fast-paced, provocative series of presentations from six local thought leaders. The [i.e.] Information Exchange, slated to be an annual event, aims to provide interesting and provocative information and informed discussion around timely issues affecting our region. Speakers and topics at the 2009 event included: June Lambla, Lambla artWORKS, LLC -Art in Public Spaces Todd Mansfield, Crosland - Balancing Development and the Environment Jim Martin, Former Governor of North Carolina - Faith and the Science Denise Watts, Bishop Spaugh Community Academy - Challenges and Opportunities in Public Education Malcolm Campbell, Davidson College - Frontiers of Science The Center for Civic Leadership addresses key challenges in our community and designs initiatives that bring together diverse groups around critical problems and issues. Recent civic leadership initiatives include the Critical Need Response Fund, Carolina Thread Trail and Crossroads Charlotte.
