Description:
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Farr Associates has created an initiative to provide leadership development scholarships to executives of nonprofit organizations in nearby Charlotte who are working hard to make more from less in this challenging environment.
The High Point-based leadership development organization partnered with the Charlotte Arts & Science Council to identify arts, science and history nonprofit executives to attend Farr’s “Mastering Leadership Dynamics” program.
“Farr sees the value in promoting and supporting leadership in Charlotte’s cultural sector,” said Tracey Gillespie, director of sales and marketing for Farr and a Charlotte native. “Anyone can manage a team and tell people what to do, but leaders make the real impact on organizations and communities.”
The scholarship recipients for 2009-2010 were Joy Braunstein, executive director of Carolina Raptor Center; Adrienne Dellinger, executive director of Clayworks; Ron Law, executive director of Theatre Charlotte; Nancina Pope, executive director of Charlotte’s Children Choir; and Doug Singleton, executive director of North Carolina Dance Theatre.
For more than 50 years, Farr has delivered leadership and organizational development solutions to businesses across the U.S.
“We know that nonprofit leaders are charged with reaching business goals just like in any other business,” said Mark Ernsberger, president and chief executive officer of Farr Associates. “Our objective is to lend a hand in a way we know will make a positive impact, which is to improve the effectiveness of leaders.”
The program focuses on increasing leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, effective communication and self-awareness.
“The Mastering Leadership Dynamics program couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Law, the executive director of Theatre Charlotte. “With all the transformations the theater is experiencing, it was excellent timing for me to learn new ways to most effectively manage the pressure.”
Clayworks Executive Director Adrienne Dellinger said she’s now a more effective leader after completing the program. “I feel I am utilizing my resources more effectively and better equipped to lead Clayworks toward our vision,” she said.
Participants must lead 501(c)(3)-designated organizations. The executives also must have the approval of their board chair.
